Indian Head Massage has been practised in Asia for over a 5000 years as part of everyday family life as a form of grooming. Indian head massage was brought to the west in the 1970's when the therapy was adapted to incorporate the face, ears, neck, shoulders and upper arms.
The massage usually begins with the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points help to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms further releases the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates relieves headaches and improves cerebral spinal fluid circulation. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair. Finally the treatment may include a gentle face massage with techniques that help circulation, skin tone, and sinus and headache problems.
The use of oils is optional during an Indian Head Massage. If the treatment is performed without oils you can remain fully clothed and it would be advisable to wear a lightweight t-shirt. If oil is preferred, upper clothing can be removed (for men) and a vest top can be worn (for women). Following your treatment it is advisable to drink plenty of water. This therapy is intended to soothe away stress and tension, leaving you relaxed, revitalised and re-energised. Indian Head Massages are suitable for children and adults of all ages.

How often should I have an Indian Head Massage?
I would recommend that you have at least one Indian Head Massage per month to maintain well- being. As part of a stress management programme it is advisable that you have an Indian Head Massage once a week for maximum benefit.
What will happen during my appointment?
I will arrive at your home with all the necessary equipment. All you need to provide is a space, which doesn't need to be huge, so long as I can move freely around you whilst you are sitting in the chair. Once I have set up my chair and music, we will go through a client consultation form and treatment plan, which will contain a number of medical and life-style questions. These are important to establish whether you have specific requirements, what your hopes and expectations of the Indian Head Massage are and whether or not there are any conditions which mean that we have to adapt your treatment. This is also your opportunity to ask me any questions.
The consultation will take approximately 15 minutes. However this will be shorter at your subsequent appointments.
Indian Head Massages can be offered as one-off treatment, a course of 4, or on-going. Call Katy on 07887526439 for more information or to book your course.
